SUMMARY:June 2025 Stem Camp: Rockets and Drones
DESCRIPTION:Alamogordo\, NM — NMSU Alamogordo\, in collaboration with with educators from the New Mexico Museum of Space History and sponsored by the International Space Hall of Fame Foundation\, proudly presents the Rocket & Drone STEM Camp. This exciting opportunity invites middle school students\, from those entering 6th grade to those completing 8th grade\, to explore the fascinating worlds of rocketry and drone technology. \nCamp Details: \n\nWeek 1 (Rockets): June 2-5\nWeek 2 (Drones): June 9-13\nTime: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM\nLocation: NMSU Alamogordo\nCost: $25 per week or $40 for both weeks\n\nDuring the first week\, campers will dive deep into the world of rockets. Participants will learn about the history and design of rockets\, create their model\, and then launch it! Last year\, NM Museum of Space History educator Marie De Leon Sanchez shared\, “The campers were thrilled to be able to make and launch their rockets.” In the second week\, students will explore drone technology\, enhancing their understanding of how drones work and learning how to fly them. The camp will culminate in a day filled with exciting drone flying challenges. \nLunch is provided for all participants. David Greenwald’s presentation will focus on the Jornada Mogollon agricultural community (A.D. 600-900) and their use of astronomy in daily life. \nThe Launch Pad Lecture Series is held on the first Friday of each month in the New Horizons Dome Theater and Planetarium in the Clyde W. Tombaugh Education Center. Museum staff\, and sometimes special guest speakers\, discuss topics ranging from space history to space future.  Free to the public. DESCRIPTION:New Mexico Museum of Space History’s Astronomy League Star Party\nLocation: NMMSH Outdoor Observatory\, Upper Parking Lot\nTime: 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM\nStar Party Theme:  Guardians of the Night\n \nA museum educator will be sharing the key to night sky friendly lighting\, the dangers of light pollution\, and the long-term impacts of dark night skies. Meanwhile\, join local astronomers and astrophotographers to use image stacking and enjoy deep sky objects. The star party will begin at 8:30 pm at the Museum of Space History observatory.
