DESCRIPTION:What: The monthly Launch Pad Lecture at the New Mexico Museum of Space History will feature Museum Education Director Mike Shinabery. His topic will be “Ranger & Mariner: All Aboard!” Shinabery will discuss these early space probes and what they were designed to do. This is the last Launch Pad Lecture to be held on the second floor of the museum. Future lectures will be held in the New Horizons Theater. \n\n\n \nWhen: Friday\, January 5\, at 9:00 am. \n\n\n \nWhere: New Mexico Museum of Space History\, Alamogordo\, NM. Take the elevator up to the second floor! This is the last Launch Pad Lecture to be held on the second floor of the museum. Future lectures will be held in the New Horizons Theater. \n\n\n \nWhy: The event is free and open to the public. Coffee and donuts are compliments of the International Space Hall of Fame Foundation. \n\n\n \nThe next Launch Pad Lecture will be held on Friday\, February 2. Inside the New Horizons Dome Theater and Planetarium in the Tombaugh Education Center! \nWhat: The Tuskegee Airmen\, an historic group of World War II African American fighter and bomber pilots\, will be the topic of the February Launch Pad Lecture. Ms. Carolyn A. Peeler will give the presentation. Ms. Peeler is the Chief of Manpower and Organization\, 49th Force Support Squadron\, 49th Mission Support Group\, 49th Wing\, Holloman Air Force Base\, New Mexico.  She serves as the lead management consultant where she provides manpower and organization support to all 49 Wing assets and over 20 tenant units. Ms. Peeler is also affiliated with several organizations within the community\, including Desert Basin Toastmasters\, Tuskegee Airmen Incorporated\, and the Holloman AFB Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion Council\, to name a few. \nWhen: Friday\, February 2\, 2024\, at 9:00 am. What do coconut trees have to do with the sky’s feistiest zodiac sign? Find out be joining the Astronomy league in viewing celestial bodies such as Saturn and Jupiter. Event begins at 8:30 in the New Mexico Museum of Space History outdoor observatory.  Event will be held rain or shine. DESCRIPTION:Event:  Climb the Cube! 9/11 Remembrance Commemoration Ceremony\nDate:  Saturday\, September 14\, 2024 \nAlamogordo’s New Mexico Museum of Space History is proud to host the upcoming 9/11 memorial Climb the Cube! event sponsored by the Alamogordo Fire Department. The event will be held on Saturday\, September 14\, 2024\, and commemorates the 343 firefighters\, 60 police officers\, 8 emergency medical technicians\, and numerous other first responders\, including K9 units lost on September 11\, 2001.\n\nParticipants will climb the equivalent of 110 stories\, symbolizing the ascent made by first responders in the World Trade Center towers. This event not only honors the fallen but also raises funds to support programs assisting the families of those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.\n\nEvent Details:\n\nDate:  Saturday\, September 14\, 2024\nLocation:  New Mexico Museum of Space History\, Alamogordo\, NM\nTime:  7:30 am – 10:00 am\nRegistration:  Register on arrival or preregistration is available online\n\n\nThe stair climb is open to all individuals\, including first responders\, civilians\, and even K9 companions\, reflecting the diverse group of heroes we honor. It is not a competitive race but a solemn tribute to bravery and sacrifice.\n\n“This event is a powerful way to remember and honor the courage of all first responders who lost their lives on 9/11\,” said April James\, of the New Mexico Museum of Space History. “We’re especially proud to include recognition of the K9 units\, whose contributions are often overlooked but were crucial in search and rescue efforts.”\n\nParticipants are encouraged to register in advance online at https://spacetrail.org/sites/stairclimb.\n\nThe event will feature special tributes to different groups of first responders\, including firefighters\, police officers\, and EMTs.\n\nThe Museum of Space History is open from 10 am to 5 pm Saturday the 14th and will be free to first responders and their families.\n\nFor more information about the event\, registration details\, and participation guidelines\, please contact the Alamogordo Fire Chief Jerry Ramirez at (575) 439-4298 or email afd@ci.alamogordo.nm.us

Pegasus has been portrayed as a horse by many cultures\, find out the backstory behind the famous winged horse in the sky. Meanwhile\, the NMMHS Astronomy League will be telescoping objects in the sky such as Saturn\, the moon\, and of course\, the Andromeda Galaxy. Event begins at 7:30 in the New Mexico Museum of Space History outdoor observatory.
