DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Sara Kerner –  Principal Software Engineer and Associate Fellow at Lockheed Martin Topic: Systems Engineering for Space Missions This topic will provide an overview of different space missions and how we build systems for space-based observation and exploration. Ms. Sara Kerner is a Principal Software Engineer and Associate Fellow at Lockheed Martin. She has 30 years’ experience developing software systems for satellites\, surface ships\, and submarine programs. Her expertise is focused in software architectures\, software systems engineering\, data processing and advanced algorithms.Significant contributions to satellite systems specifically include end-to-end software system architectures\, space and ground data processing chain architectures\, and advanced data processing algorithms and solutions. Ms. Kerner has supported satellite launches and operational programs including serving as the Satellite Operations Manager during Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) launch and early orbit testing. Ms. Kerner holds a B.S. in Applied Mathematics with a concentration in Software Engineering from the University of Wisconsin\, Stout and is a member of the Society of Women Engineers. The Launch Pad Lecture Series are held on the first Friday of each month on the second floor of the Museum and is free to attend. Museum staff\, and sometimes special guest speakers\, discuss topics ranging from space history to space future.   Free to the public. Coffee and donuts provided.    The New Mexico Museum of Space History in Alamogordo is a division of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs. A Smithsonian Affiliate\, the museum showcases the significant role New Mexico has played in the development of the U.S. Space Program and features the International Space Hall of Fame\, and New Horizons Dome Theater.
