SUMMARY:Free Entry to NM Museums and Historic Sites for Active-Duty Military through Blue Star
DESCRIPTION:Santa Fe\, NM – Active-duty military personnel\, including National Guard\, Reserve\, and their families\, will receive free admission to the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs’ eight museums and eight historic sites this summer through the Blue Star Museums program. \nThe New Mexico Arts & Military program is launching the campaign to raise awareness of this opportunity for more than 43\,000 active-duty military members\, National Guard\, and their families in New Mexico. Free admission runs from Armed Forces Day\, May 16\, 2026\, through Labor Day\, September 7\, 2026. \nThe program includes free admission for up to five family members with a valid military ID. More information and a map of participating museums are available at arts.gov/initiatives/blue-star-museums. \n“Participating in the Blue Star Museums program is an incredible opportunity for DCA museums and historic sites to share New Mexico’s rich artistic\, historical\, and cultural offerings with active-duty service members and their families\,” said Kevin Lenkner\, Program Coordinator for New Mexico Arts & the Military. \nParticipating sites include eight state museums and eight historic sites across New Mexico\, including the Museum of International Folk Art\, National Hispanic Cultural Center\, New Mexico Museum of Space History\, Coronado Historic Site\, Lincoln Historic Site\, and Bosque Redondo Memorial. \nNMDCA also partners with the New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services to offer free one-time admission passes to veterans with a service-connected disability rating of 50% or higher. SUMMARY:International Space Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and 50th Anniversary Celebration
DESCRIPTION:On October 3\, 2026\, the New Mexico Museum of Space History will host its 50th Anniversary Gala at the Tays Center in Alamogordo\, New Mexico. Titled “Golden Jubilee: 50 Years of Honoring Yesterday and Inspiring Tomorrow\,” this special evening will pay tribute to the museum’s legacy and give a glimpse into the future. The highlight of the gala will be the induction of a new class into the International Space Hall of Fame. \n\nChosen from a field of 45 distinguished nominees submitted nationwide\, this year’s inductees exemplify extraordinary achievements in space science and exploration. Honorees include the pioneering women of the Mercury 13\, Swiss astrophysicist Michel Mayor\, NASA astronauts Senator Mark Kelly and his twin brother Scott Kelly\, NASA mathematician Creola Katherine Johnson\, and Dolores “Dee” O’Hara\, the first nurse to care for America’s astronauts. \n\nThe museum first opened its doors in 1976 as the International Space Hall of Fame\, dedicated to recognizing the imagination\, achievements\, and determination of those who have advanced humanity’s understanding of the universe and expanded the boundaries of space exploration.
