Theme: Hunting the Hunter
New Mexico Museum of Space History’s Astronomy League Star Party — Winter star gazing in southern New Mexico is unmatched. Discover the fascinating stories of the Orion constellation and learn what different cultures saw in this celestial formation, including Messier 42, Orion’s Nebula. Amateur astronomers from the NMMHS Astronomy League will provide telescopic views of planets such as Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, and more.
The event begins at 6:00 PM at the New Mexico Museum of Space History’s outdoor observatory area, rain or shine. Please dress warmly, as temperatures may drop to the 30s after sunset. If weather conditions or visibility are poor, the event will be moved indoors to the Tombaugh Dome and Planetarium. We hope to see you there!
This is a public star party supported by the Museum of Space History’s Astronomy League and Museum Educators. Along with the normal array of telescopes, there will be big screen live viewing of astronomic objects as well as the usual visual observing. This event is free to the public and will be held at the NMMSH Outdoor Observatory in the upper parking lot.
